• Water Corporation is replacing the Wellington Dam Road bridge with a new, dual lane bridge and pedestrian footpath. The goal is to deliver innovative and cost-effective design to upgrade the dam to meet modern safety standards and reduce flood risk.

• This work will improve safety and access for visitors to the dam, and is being delivered by Water Corporation's authorised contractor, Seymour Whyte. The Wellington Dam Road Bridge upgrade project is supported by the State Government.

• The single lane Wellington Dam Road bridge was built in 1966. In February 2021, the Wellington Dam mega mural was completed, drawing more traffic to the bridge. Engineering reviews found the bridge to be unfit for its load limit and was closed to pedestrians and vehicles in May 2021 to ensure public safety.

• The new bridge will enhance access and offer an unobstructed view of the dam’s famous mural, ‘Reflections’ — the world’s largest dam mural spanning 8,000 square metres — helping attract more visitors and supporting regional tourism in Western Australia’s south west.

• The demolition of the old bridge was completed in June 2025 and the construction of the new bridge will follow and is expected to be completed by mid 2026. The estimated cost of this project is $29 million.

• BDNZL has worked closely with our customer Seymour White Construction (SWC) to provide a strong cost effective bridge deck solution that meets the required specifications an environmental design restraints. Seymour Whyte brings over 35 years of experience delivering collaborative, large-scale infrastructure projects nationwide. The company’s expertise in design, construction, and stakeholder engagement ensures a seamless approach to meeting project objectives while upholding environmental and community standards.
